ENOUGH TO SHARE: Book Cover

What to Expect: Sharing, adaptability, climate change, nature, animals, sustainability, Great Bear Rainforest.

This powerful picture book follows two quiet, symbolic main characters whose lives are deeply intertwined with the rhythms of the Great Bear Rainforest.

Sea Wolf and Spirit Bear used to share everything in the Great Bear Rainforest. They shared the expansive territory of the woods, and the fish and fish eggs that were their favorite food. They shared the lovely, clean water of the river and sea, and the trees that provided cover for hunting and hiding.

Now, however, things are changing. Humans have cut down the trees, reducing the territory that Sea Wolf and Spirit Bear must share. Humans have taken the fish, reducing the food that Sea Wolf and Spirit Bear must share. Humans have poisoned the water and air, leaving less of everything for Sea Wolf and Spirit Bear to share in the Great Bear Rainforest. Will there be enough for Sea Wolf and Spirit Bear to share? Yes—but only if humans can learn to share too!

Through the character’s shared dependence on land, water, and food, the book delivers a clear and urgent message about environmental stewardship and the consequences of human degradation of the environment. The setting feels both expansive and fragile, brought to life as a place of abundance that is steadily diminishing. Mixing simple storytelling with factual information and direct calls to action, the story presents complex issues such as deforestation, overfishing, and pollution in a way that is accessible and thought-provoking for young readers, encouraging them to see themselves as part of a shared ecosystem—this is underscored by the bold, woodcut-inspired illustration style, which uses thick lines and high contrast-colors to deliver folkloric imagery evocative of traditional storytelling.

Enough to Share is perfect for thoughtful readers, budding environmentalists, and classrooms exploring themes of conservation, responsibility, and our collective role in protecting the natural world.
