The Brightest Star

The Brightest Star

When I was asked to take part in this blog tour I jumped at the chance.

Meg Grehan is an awesome writer and I couldn’t wait to start to read the book.

Stevie is about to start secondary school. She often feels anxious, but feels much better having her two best friends, Chloe and Andrew, by her side. Their new school is filled with excitement, like the LGBTQIA+ club, but also challenges, such as math class. The biggest challenge of all though comes when Andrew suddenly becomes distant.

Andrew isn’t quite sure who he is yet. This didn’t matter much before, especially when he was hanging out with Stevie and Chloe. Now it seems to matter very much indeed, but he doesn’t know how to begin talking about it with his friends, who seem to be much clearer about who they are.

Starting high school is a massive step in life, in July our school said goodbye to an awesome year 6 group.  While dropping my son off at high school on Thursday  I saw a lot of them  and I was so proud of them. They looked smart and the confidence they had was amazing, even the quieter ones believed in themselves. But not every child believes in themselves and this is a book all about that.

This is the sequel to The Deepest Breath and we are reunited with the characters Stevie, Chloe and Andrew, this time we are at high school with them where they must navigate new emotions and experiences.

This is a really sweet verse book, it has so much help within the story for anxiety, for new experiences, to who you are or who you aren’t yet, for self confidence and for true friendship.

The author was so sensitive in how she wrote this.

This is a very inclusive book.

I look forward to reading her next book.
