engaging, interactive book about plants
WHY DO PLANTS LOVE THE SUN? is an approachable question and answer nonfiction picture book about plants. The book is written with a question that is then answered on the next page with text and language designed for preschoolers to understand.
What I loved: This is a really engaging and approachable way to teach about plants and the world around. The book makes it so that little ones can understand information about plants and also relate it to themselves. For instance, when it talks about how plants drink water through their roots, it instructs children to drink through a straw just like plants do! Other little tasks throughout help to break up the text and keep readers engaged, such as finding an animal on the page, counting a certain type of object or bug, or moving their body in a way that relates to plants.
The illustrations are loads of fun with plants who have a lot of personality shown throughout. Relevant images are also labeled, which is helpful for word recognition and easy identification of specific trees or parts. The text is clear and large throughout, which is helpful when reading aloud and especially when the text becomes long.
This will work best for curious preschoolers who can appreciate the explanations and length of text while learning about the world around them!
