What I Loved:

From the genes that are no longer active to the robots being invented by scientists today, the book focuses on various ways that science is trying to understand genes and how they can positively impact life.

With gorgeous colors and stunning illustrations, the artist worked hard to bring the author’s words to life. It can be hard for kids to grasp hard topics, even when they are being presented with age-appropriate language, and the images may help their brains connect the information to real life. The art goes from brighter to darker as needed, but it always maintains the same style, simple but impactful.

This book may use words above the suggested age range, but they seem to try to do it in a way that children will still be able to understand. At the back of the book is a glossary with definitions for harder words. There is also a pronunciation guide for some of the terms. A way to challenge students with a wider vocabulary, while also still ensuring that they are able to understand the book.
