Concluding our favourite Picture Book series of 2025 with a Festive title!!!

We Disagree about this Tree by Ross Collins

With this particular title from the incredible Ross Collins celebrating its 10th Birthday, it is totally awesome for Nosy Crow to have released a beautiful Board Book format – complete with 10 Years shiny stamp on the front – and so this book will now be flying off to a new generation of young readers, a decade younger than those who welcomed this book into the world of children’s literature, and one of those new tiny readers is my one year old nephew, who has come to REALLY, REALLY love the characters that are Mouse and Bear, and he delights in their antics with each book I take over to share with him. This festive season I shall be sharing We Disagree about this Tree with him – and many other little ones – and I just know his parents will be adding their very own copy of this book to their little ones library (as they have the previous books in this series). What a fantastic way to see in the festive season – sharing a Christmas themed book in your absolute favourite Picture Book series this year. I have blogged the earlier trio of titles if you’d like to refresh your memory or get some inspiration on the set to buy for your little people, they are :

When Bear brings home a Christmas tree Mouse is absolutely thrilled, and it should be a matter of time before the iconic part of all Christmas decorating is the centrepiece of their festivities. That doesn’t happen though because whilst Bear has his ideas for how to decorate the tree perfectly, Mouse has other ideas. The pair do not agree, and it seems as though disagreeing is the theme of each styling done to the tree by each of them, and it makes for some hilarious reading pleasure for little ones. Mouse decides to decorate with things such as baubles that are oversized to the tree itself, which Bear does not like. Bear tries designing the tree with far too many lights on it, and whilst it could be described as dazzling it wouldn’t be in the way one would want that word to be used as a result by someone admiring the efforts. Mouse is not a fan. One by one the tree style is changed until finally the duo have the perfect Christmas tree to enjoy.

This book is super entertaining, and being based around tree designing, something that occurs in nearly every home this time of year, means they are able to recognise the main theme of the book. Furthermore they will likely appreciate the disagreeing, and constant changing of the additions to their own Christmas tree whilst reading this, because we are all eager to design the perfect tree this time of year, and the balance of it being stressful with it being successful is something us adult readers can relate to too. I love that the different decorations used by Mouse and by Bear are easily recognised by little ones who will be admiring their own tree eagerly this time of year, and it is really lovely to think little ones will have a better understanding and love of their own tree as a result of seeing the efforts of Bear and Mouse too.

This is the absolute perfect conclusion to spending 2025 eagerly following Mouse and Bear’s adventures and hilarious antics, and I cannot wait to see what comes next from the pair. There is no difficulty in seeing how this particular title is celebrating 10 years of bringing joy to readers, and it is amazing to now have board book format for those looking for a more durable book to use with little ones too. I don’t think there is another pair in a picture book I would be this excited to enjoy Christmas with then these two, and I love the tone to the humour used with this series as it hits perfectly with children and adults alike. If you are looking for the perfect festive title for little ones this Christmas then I highly recommend this one, and the other titles in the series make for a perfect bundle too.
